UPDATE - Please scroll past the line for the original post.

Thank you to everyone who participated in Green December! The plastic bag collection received more than 3500 plastic grocery bags for proper recycling at East Hill Publix. Can you even imagine 3500 plastic grocery bags in one place? Can you imagine 3500 people standing in front of you right now? That's insane! 7 Days of Green was also a great success. Legume received many submissions and messages from students, and I'm very impressed at some of the "green" challenges that you came up with!

But there's something more that you did. To support Green December, East Hill Publix agreed to donate canned goods, juice, materials, etc. to Manna Food Bank, while an anonymous donor agreed to match the amount of canned goods donated. In total, that amounted to 379 lbs of food. That's over $500 worth of food. 379 lbs of food that you made available to the Pensacola community. Especially now, what with the weather, COVID, and everything else that happened this year, this food is greatly appreciated. You all have done a great thing.

Special thanks to East Hill Publix, Mrs. Ryals, Mrs. Tryling, Mrs. Ratte, Mrs. Boesel, Mrs. Parnell, Mr. Jones, and Mr. Ramey for their support in this project.

Stay tuned for updates on prize winners for the plastic bag collection.

Happy December everyone!

It's the holiday season, which means its time to give back to your community and have a little fun while you do. With everything going on this year, it can be hard to feel like you can do anything to help the world and improve your situation. But, no matter what, the fact that you are here and that you are trying is good enough.

That's why this December, Legume will be making things easy for PHS students. There are separate activities for traditional and remote students. Skip to your section to find your information!

Traditional Students

From December 7th-11th, there will be collection boxes in certain classrooms (list below) across the PHS campus. Bring in your plastic grocery bags to fill up these boxes, and Legume will take all of them to East Hill Publix for proper recycling! There is no limit to the amount of bags to bring! Just remember to scan the QR code on the box that you deposit your bags in to record your name, teacher, period, and the amount of bags deposited.

The top three students who donate the most bags will receive special prizes!

And there's something even better. Every teacher with a box will be offering extra credit for bags that you bring in! Each teacher will have a certain number of bags that they will require for you to receive extra credit. Once you pass this threshold, that does not mean you will receive more extra credit, but don't forget that there are still prizes for students who donate the most!

Put your bags together in bundles of 10 and don't forget to scan the QR code to record your deposit. You will not be considered for extra credit or prizes if you do not scan the QR code.

Legume will only be collecting plastic grocery bags. The bags must be clean and dry. If you have multiple, make sure you secure them into one item. Remember to scan the QR code every time you drop off your bags. You can drop off bags as many times as you need to! If you lose the QR code, here is the link to the google form for recording your drop-off.
