UPDATE Pt. 2: The plastic bag collection is happening! I am pleased to announce that I

will be working with East Hill Publix to recycle your plastic grocery bags. All you have to do is bring your bags to one of the collection boxes, scan the QR code attached to the box, and fill in your information for a chance to win a $25 gift basket from Publix and more! Boxes will be in the school from September 8th-11th, 2020. Boxes can be found in Jones, Johns, Ramey, Ryals, Tryling, and the front office.

UPDATE: The plastic bag exchange has been delayed until the fall due to COVID-19. Keep Pensacola Beautiful will hopefully be open in May, but if not, Publix and Walmart will still accept any plastic bags that you have. Keep Pensacola Beautiful's plastic bag exchange will most likely take place in the fall.

You see it all the time. "Bring a reusable bag to the grocery store! Buy a reusable bag and stop using plastic!" But what if you already have a bunch of plastic bags? What if you can't buy one and it's necessary for you to use plastic bags in everyday life?

I have the solution for you.

During the month of April, Keep Pensacola Beautiful holds a plastic bag exchange at their

organization. Basically, you bring in a bundle of 20 plastic bags and exchange it for a reusable bag. But it doesn't have to be grocery shopping bags! Think packaging, ziploc bags, airbags, etc. Check out their website for the full list of items to bring!

If you go to PHS, though, I have an even easier solution for you.

From September 8th-11th, there will be collection boxes in certain classrooms across the PHS campus. There is no required amount of bags to bring, but bring as many as you can! Tie them into bundles or put them all into one bag for easier sorting and drop them into a box. Make sure to scan the QR code on the box to fill in your information for a chance to win a $25 gift basket from Publix and more!

We will only be collecting plastic grocery bags. The bags must be clean and dry. If you have multiple, make sure you secure them into one item. Remember to scan the QR code every time you drop off your bags. You can drop off bags as many times as you need to! If you lose the QR code, here is the link to the google form for recording your drop-off.

The following teachers will have boxes:

- Ramey

- Tryling

- Jones

- Ryals

- Johns

- Front office

Live Green everyone! Let's give these plastic bags some new use!
