Grocery runs always mean plastic bags. Everywhere. People tend to overuse plastic grocery bags at the store, using 5 bags for items that could be held in one canvas bag.

The U.S. uses 100 billion plastic grocery bags per year. The average American family uses about 60 grocery bags in just four trips to the store. And you can't recycle them. Most of them end up in landfills or in the ocean to deteriorate or be eaten by animals.

If you use a canvas or reusable bag to grocery shop, you can save upwards of 500 plastic bags per year. They last for years, and they're much stronger and larger than plastic bags, so they can hold many more items with less effort.

Your challenge is: Use a reusable tote or canvas bag to go shopping.

The little effort to grab a single bag from your car is worth the amount of plastic bags that you will save.
