Plastic is everywhere today. It is generally unavoidable. You can see plastic everywhere that you go. We all use plastic in some way, shape, or form. That phone? Plastic. That chair? Plastic. That container? Plastic.

And most of it is simply thrown away. They're built to be single-use plastics, so nobody thinks twice about tossing it aside.

But the effects of single-use plastics are devastating. The rate of single-use plastic that isn't recycled is equivalent to dumping a full garbage truck into the ocean every minute. And that rate is steadily increasing. There is no easy way to eliminate the use of single-use plastic as of now. But you can do something.

Your challenge is: Count your plastic.

For one day, count every piece of plastic that you use, whether it be a wrapper, a cup, a piece of silverware, or a water bottle. Keep track of every piece that you would use on a normal day and at the end of the day, look at how much you used. The first step to reducing your use is knowing how much you used in the first place. From there, you can slowly reduce your use of plastic to help keep plastic out of the world.

Even better, collect all of the plastic that you use, take a picture of it at the end of the day, and post it on Instagram to @legume.official or with the hashtag provided on the Instagram post for this challenge.
